MEA Asks Court to Find that Natural Resources Official Violated Public Records Law

In a hearing today, MEA asked a Dane County Circuit Court to find that Fred Prehn violated the Wisconsin Public Records Law after it was discovered that Prehn had improperly withheld dozens of communications about his refusal to step down from the NRB. Judge Everett Mitchell indicated that a written decision would be issued soon.

Today, a group of six Kewaunee County residents represented by MEA intervened in a legal dispute between Kinnard Farms and the DNR over permit modifications made by the DNR to the farm's wastewater permit following a landmark Supreme Court decision last year.

VICTORY! Portage County Livestock Facility Ordered to Test Groundwater as Concerns Over Nitrate Pollution Continue to Grow

The DNR has modified a wastewater discharge permit for Gordondale Farms, a livestock facility in Portage County. The original permit was the subject of a legal challenge brought by MEA on behalf of a group of local residents. According to the terms of the new permit, the farm must install groundwater monitoring wells near the Village of Nelsonville where the farm spreads manure.

MEA Petitions the DNR to Move Forward with PFAS Standards to Protect Groundwater

MEA has petitioned the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to restart the process of creating enforceable standards for PFAS in groundwater. The petition was filed Friday, July 1 on behalf of S.O.H2O and the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin. PFAS contamination in our groundwater is an urgent problem that requires immediate action. The petition gives state officials an opportunity to move quickly to protect public health.
